Dutch hydrogen firm Resato Hydrogen wins court protection as it hunts for new funding

Hydrogen station builder Resato Hydrogen seeks protection and capital

Resato Hydrogen Technology, based in Assen in the Netherlands, has been granted a suspension of payments (surseance) by the court. This gives the company temporary protection from its creditors and room to look for a solution. Without new financing, however, bankruptcy looms.

What does Resato Hydrogen make?

The company develops and builds hydrogen refuelling stations for cars, trucks and buses, with installations for 350 and 700 bar. Resato Hydrogen grew out of Resato International, which dates back to 1991 and was split into three divisions in 2022. The other two — Resato Waterjet and Resato High Pressure — are separate from this procedure and continue to operate as normal.

In recent years Resato Hydrogen delivered more than 80 hydrogen stations across Europe. Its ambition reached further: the company aimed for a thousand stations by 2030 and wanted to scale up production sharply toward 2027.

Where did it go wrong?

At the heart of the problem is financing. In early 2025 Resato Hydrogen still raised 25 million euros from the European Investment Bank. But when further funding became uncertain, it could not secure enough new capital in time for the next phase. According to the company there is plenty of support and interest, but insufficient money in the short term. Its majority shareholder is Pindustry, the investment arm of the Verder Group, with a 75% stake.

What happens next?

A court-appointed administrator is overseeing the procedure. Resato Hydrogen is in talks with possible new financiers and strategic investors about a relaunch or takeover, with the aim of continuing its activities.

What this says about the sector

The news shows where building hydrogen infrastructure often gets stuck: not on the technology, but on financing and the pace at which demand picks up. We are following the developments around Resato closely and hope for a relaunch. Reliable refuelling stations are, after all, a key to hydrogen mobility — a good network is what makes choosing hydrogen truly attractive for drivers.
