H2 Rijders tests the new Hyundai Nexo — and you set the agenda

In August, H2 Rijders takes the new Hyundai Nexo for an extended test. Not a standard road impression — a deep-dive into the questions that matter to hydrogen drivers.

Most automotive publications treat the Nexo as a technological curiosity: impressive range, fast refuelling, but firmly niche. H2 Rijders goes further. We drive it as a car. As a family car. As a daily driver for people for whom hydrogen isn't an experiment but a considered choice.

What H2 Rijders is testing

The new Nexo carries a towing capacity of 1,000 kg — a first for a hydrogen car. But what does that mean in practice? Does it pull a folding caravan without noticeable power loss? How does the energy management system respond when towing weight increases?

Then there's everyday technology. Does Android Auto connect reliably, or does it drop out on longer drives? How well is the rain sensor calibrated? How does the climate control behave in daily use? Are the optional digital side mirrors in the Plus trim genuinely usable, or more frustration than convenience?

The Nexo includes a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, allowing users to power household appliances directly from the high-voltage battery. That sounds promising. H2 Rijders tests what it actually means in practice — from a camping kitchen to a work laptop.

Efficiency in daily use also interests us. The new powertrain is more efficient than the previous generation, but how much more efficient in real-world driving outside WLTP test conditions? We cover the routes hydrogen drivers know: short urban trips, motorway kilometres, and a longer run along the available Dutch refuelling network.

Your question, our test

Most automotive publications cover range and refuelling infrastructure. That's understandable — but H2 Rijders writes for people who are considering hydrogen, or already driving it. They want to know whether the rain sensor works. Whether the navigation is intuitive. Whether you can run a coffee machine from the V2L outlet during a camping weekend.

Which question should we answer for you? Leave it in the comments. We take the best ones into the test.

What we already know about the new Nexo

For those who want the technical picture: the new Nexo runs on hydrogen via a fuel cell delivering 110 kW, combined with an 80 kW battery. Total system output is 190 kW. The WLTP range is 826 km from a 6.69 kg hydrogen tank. Refuelling takes around five minutes. Starting price in the Netherlands: €72,495.

The test appears on H2 Rijders in August.
