Holthausen scales up: six filling points for certified green hydrogen

Published on 03 Jun 2026

Holthausen Energy Points is taking another step in building out the Dutch hydrogen infrastructure. With as many as six trailer filling points for RFNBO-certified green hydrogen, the company now ranks among the larger hydrogen trailer filling stations in the Netherlands. And capacity keeps growing: 7 MW of additional electrolysis is coming soon, allowing Holthausen to supply ever more customers with locally produced, sustainable hydrogen.

What does RFNBO-certified mean?

RFNBO stands for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin. It is the European mark for genuinely green hydrogen. To qualify, producers must prove the hydrogen is made with renewable electricity and cuts greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared with grey hydrogen from natural gas. On top of that, the entire chain – from producer to end user – must be traceable and certified.

That mark is becoming increasingly important. The European Union wants a substantial share of industrial hydrogen to meet the RFNBO requirements by 2030. A filling station that already delivers certified hydrogen is therefore ahead of the curve.

The full chain in-house

What sets Holthausen apart is that it keeps almost the entire chain in-house: production, gas analysis, quality control, storage, filling and transport. The company emphasises guaranteed hydrogen quality, with its own gas analysis and checks. Delivery is available in cylinders, bundles and tube trailers, at filling pressures of 200 and 300 bar – and soon 385 bar as well.

The green hydrogen is produced through electrolysis powered by solar and wind energy. In this process, water is split into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity, without CO2 emissions.

Production spread across the north and west of the Netherlands

Holthausen has production sites in Amsterdam, Oosterwolde and Groningen. With these, the company is building a network in which hydrogen is produced close to the customer. Local production is a logical asset: it limits transport and fits the idea of using sustainably generated energy locally as well.

Building the hydrogen economy

From production and analysis to storage, filling and transport, Holthausen says it invests daily in the further development of the hydrogen economy in the Netherlands and beyond. Alongside battery-electric solutions, this shows that green hydrogen is a fully fledged, scalable zero-emission option – particularly for heavy transport and industry, where large volumes of energy and fast availability matter.

With the expansion to 7 MW of electrolysis and higher filling pressures, Holthausen Energy Points is taking a concrete step toward a broader and more reliable hydrogen network.
